Reclaim Your Rise: Type 1 Diabetes with Lauren Bongiorno

31. Ninja Warrior Finalist Katie Bone on Competing with Type 1 Diabetes

Lauren Bongiorno Season 1 Episode 31

It’s not every day that we have a Ninja Warrior on the show!

A few weeks ago, 16-year-old Katie Bone stepped on national TV, proudly displaying her Omnipod and Dexcom on both triceps, ready to compete. Katie was diagnosed with type one diabetes when she was 11 years old. The first question she asked the doctor was, “When can I climb?”

Since her diagnosis, she has competed in the USA Climbing Youth National Championships, American Ninja Warrior Junior, and most recently, the adult version of American Ninja Warrior.

In today’s episode, Katie and I sit down to talk about…

  • Her diagnosis story
  • How she had a really tough time last year competing because of her blood sugars
  • What her nutrition and insulin planning look like for the semifinals and finals this season
  • Identifying her body's patterns, especially around her adrenals

So many people and kids living with type one diabetes have been so inspired by how Katie embraces her T1D, I can’t wait for you to listen to this episode!
